London City Airport Headquarters

"City Aviation House is an excellent building. This is a fast-moving business and we have to react quickly to the changing requirements of our customers. The Yorkon system suits our requirements, particularly the shorter timespans and greater convenience."

London City Airport is recognised as one of Europe’s leading airports for business travel, and as London’s only airport, is an important provider of air travel for the South East, supporting the growth of the city and the regeneration of East London.

Passenger numbers continue to grow year on year and plans are in place to expand current operations to handle 8m passengers per annum by 2030. Passenger throughput has increased by 20 per cent in 12 months, with the airport now providing direct links to more than 30 European destinations.

In four years, Yorkon has completed a number of schemes at London City Airport in contracts worth more than £4m, bringing all the advantages of off-site construction to this busy international airport.

London City Airport required a new purpose-designed 3,000sqm headquarters building to make way for the Docklands Light Railway London City Airportextension.  The original City Aviation House was positioned exactly in line with the route of the rail track and so had to be demolished.

The Solution

Main contractors AMEC awarded the £3.3m contract to Yorkon for the design and construction of a four-storey replacement office building. Yorkon was also responsible for all fitting out, and mechanical and electrical services.

Reception, City Aviation HouseThe scheme involved the off-site manufacture and installation of 76 modules, providing both open plan and cellular office accommodation, meeting rooms, canteen, and board room, with toilets and stores on each floor.

It was delivered on time and on budget, less than six months after start of work on site.
